A home with a view

Most people who travel along U.S. 72 in Lauderdale County have gazed across the Blue Water Polo Field and noticed the beautiful white house on the bluff. The house was designed by its owners, Rickey and Patsy Butler. They drew the plans and made changes along the way as they oversaw and participated, hands on, in much of the construction.

For Jeff and Nancy Bowling, it just feels like home. The large rooms allow for ample space to stretch out and relax in front of the television or have guests over for an informal dinner. West-facing windows allow evening sun to pour in and add an inviting glow. Even to casual visitors, the space feels welcoming and, yes, a lot like home. Go ahead, sit down.

There is a home in my neighborhood I wonder about. It is a grand thing, covered with trailing vines, surrounded by manicured lawns, and every time I pass it, my mind wonders what life must be like for the people who live in the English Tudor-inspired marvel. Surely they must eat buttered scones in the morning while the smell of coffee fills their breakfast nook.
