TUSCALOOSA (AP) — Tuscaloosa officers made an arrest today in the strangulation death of a teenager nearly 35 years ago.
The commander of the Tuscaloosa County homicide unit, Capt. Loyd Baker, said 57-year-old James Michael Hayes was booked into the county jail Monday on a capital murder charge. He's accused of strangling 18-year-old Teresa Carol White. She disappeared on April 15, 1978, and her body was found five days later near Lake Nicol Dam.
