MONTGOMERY — More than 100 people crowded into the Alabama House chamber for a public hearing Wednesday on legislation that would repeal education standards known as Common Core, previously adopted by the state school board for the public schools.

Members of the House Education Policy Committee and the Senate Education Committee held an emotional hearing lasting more than two hours. Neither panel took a vote.
