As a drought continues to build, the Alabama Forestry Commission is restricting outdoor burning.

At 4 p.m. today, a fire alert will be issued for Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale and Lawrence counties. During a fire alert, outdoor burning permits are only issued with the approval of the state forester.

Fire departments in Florence, Muscle Shoals and Tuscumbia have stopped issuing outdoor burning permits because of the dry weather.

Rainfall in the Shoals is more than eight inches below normal for the year.
