MONTGOMERY - The Alabama Supreme Court today set a Sept. 27 execution date for Tommy Douglas Arthur, convicted of capital murder in a murder-for-hire case in Colbert County.
It's the second time he's faced his date with destiny in connection with the 1982 shooting death of the husband of his lover.
Arthur 65, was convicted three times of capital murder in the Feb. 1, 1982, shooting death of Troy Wicker, the husband of Judy Wicker. She testified against him in one of his trials.
His convictions have been upheld by state and federal appellate courts, but Arthur can still seek relief in federal courts.
Arthur was set for execution on April 27, 2001, but that date was stayed by a federal judge so he could consider an appeal based on innocence he maintained in three trials.
