Colbert votes to rescind Barton Park covenants

TUSCUMBIA -- Colbert County Commissioners voted Tuesday to rescind the covenants that were in place for Barton Riverfront Industrial Park.

County Attorney James A. "Jap" Patton said the covenants would be rewritten to fit the requirements of the expected new tenant to the park, which will be a railcar company that's announcing its arrival today.

The old covenants included height restrictions on buildings that may have to be altered to accommodate the new plant.

In other business, the-commission:

  • appointed Woodis to the Shoals Industrial Development Committee, which will oversee money earned by a half-cent sales tax for economic development.

  • appointed Willie Buchanan and Commissioner Tim Leigh to the Colbert County Port Authority.

  • approved the sale of a lot in the Colbert County Industrial Park to Raymond Suggs.

  • voted to declare a 1989 pickup in the Road Department as surplus property to be disposed of on GovDeals.com.

  • approved the resignation of Debra Rich in the Colbert County Probate Office.

  • approved Rich's request for unused annual leave.

  • approved the resignation of Colbert County Drug Task Force employee Chris Copeland.

  • approved Copeland's request for unused annual leave.

  • approved the purchase of a $714 advertisement in the TimesDaily "Living Here" tabloid.
