Keep Bluewater clean
Last Modified: Thursday, December 27, 2007 at 11:00 p.m.
I was born at home in 1948, about one mile from Bluewater Creek, in East Lauderdale County. Several of my ancestors are buried in Bluewater Cemetery.
My daddy took me fishing in Bluewater Creek many times as a child. One day I was so excited when I caught 13 fish.
I remember several times when we caught the fish, cleaned them and made a fire and mother cooked them and fried potatoes right there on the creek bank.
I loved Bluewater Creek, maybe because I'm part Cherokee and maybe because of all the fond memories I have of being at the creek.
Now, the Killen Town Council has hired a company called Alabama Utilities Systems and they have applied for a permit from ADEM to build a sewage treatment plant on Bluewater Creek.
They say it won't hurt the water or the living creatures in the creek, but I beg to differ. They say it must be done in the name of progress.
Killen should try really hard to obtain the money necessary to hook up to the Florence sewage system and leave our beautiful Bluewater Creek alone.
