So Figures doesn't want students or instructors to have guns on campus. What else is new? All liberal Democrats want to limit firearm ownership as much as possible. They desire to punish the law abiding citizen for the actions of criminals. It's part of their desire to control, thinking they know what's best for all. There is noting wrong with responsible instructors being armed if they wish. I doubt this bill will ever become law as Figures will makesure itnever leaves committee. Perhaps one day the people in her district will wake up and realize it's time for a conservative to represent them.

That whole "No guns on campus" thing worked pretty well at Virginia Tech, didn't it.

It was a school principal, armed with a Colt .45 automatic that stopped the shooter in Pearl, Mississippi.

Sen. Vivian Davis Figures and her supporters are using exactly the same argument that anti-gun people used to try to keep several states from passing "Shall issue" laws about concealled carry. Stupid statements like "wild west shootouts" and "blood in the streets", which abound without any basis or fact. People who claim these types of reaction are dwelling on the worst sort of phobia...one without any evidence to support their conclusions.
The passage of laws requiring the issuance of concealled carry permits in several states resulted in a decrease in crime, the exact opposite from what the anti-gunners predicted. No wild west shootouts have occured, nobody's been shot in the grocery line over the last issue of the Enquirer. People who go through the process and hoopla to get a CCW are NOT the type of people who engage in wanton violence. They are the MOST law abiding people you will find.

Agreed, Sassy. Read another of my posts (the guns in church thing) and find out just what a "wild west shootout" is like...in a state with highly restrictive gun laws.

Yep. The areas with the most restrictions on citizens lawfully carrying concealed weapons are the ones with the highest crime rates. An armed society is a polite society.

I have had a co-worker assaulted in his office by a disgruntled student, I was nearly slapped by a girl when I caught her plagiarizing and gave her a zero on an exam. A grad student in my old bldg. went nuts and set the bldg. on fire on campus at UA. Another crazy studnet set the house across the street (Riverside Drive) on fire when I moved there. A year later, another crazy student went on a rampage with a rifle and shotgun, ran naked through the streets after holding his former girlfriend and a neighbor hostage for 18 hours and then barricaded himself in his apt., again on Riverside Drive, one block from my house. A policeman was wounded as he took potshots out of a window -- nothing like a SWAT team staged in your front yard and you inside the perimeter, unable to leave and your house live on TV.
I would not be comfortable with any weapon in my sight in my classroom. Period. No exceptions. They would not be allowed. I would not want to be on an armed campus. Period. I cannot see many campus administrations altering their policies re: arms on campus one iota. Passing a bill will be the same as making it operable. In this case, the administration will simply say "noted." Then they will do nothing to impliment this horrid proposal.
Do you Moron Lobos know anything at all about the stress of college students, or that schizophrenia usually first manifests itself during undergraduate years? Have you ever read "The Moral and Intellectual Development of College Students: A Scheme" a classic in the stages that students undergo? I doubt it seriously.
Has your armed neighbor ever shot up your neighborhood? On the same block? With your house live on TV news?

Nearly slapped by a girl, you say? People running naked in the streets? You've sure enough lived a dangerous life. Oooohhhh...
For each one of those dubious examples you've gave, how many thousands of people went through the same courses, at the same schools, without ever causing a single hair to be mussed on anybody's head? I know the number is in the thousands, perhaps the millions. And of course, you describe the offenders as "crazy". If they indeed are crazy, they should be denied a concealed carry permit right up front. Your comfort or lack of it due to weapons is of no concern to me. You are advocating denying a Constitutionally affirmed, God given right to a select class of people because of your prejudicial attitude...that all college students are trouble makers. Of course, this leaves out the fact that a large proportion of college students are actually adults seeking continuing education, or an advanced degree. Yet you would paint them with the same brand of "crazy" paint that you do all students. I know and have known a large number of college students over the years. Most of my collegues were college students at one time or another. None of them has ever ran naked through the streets, or "almost girl slapped" a teacher. I guess we were lucky.

Shoot, fellas. We all carry the tools of our trade. Church, school, and especially where ever I see a sign prohibiting carrying a gun. You know the "Come rob me" or "A professional victim works here" signs.
You'd a thought by now the anti-gun crowd would have figured out by now it's not us or the CCWs that cause problems.
Bottom line is, they are too scared to defend themselves and think others should be every bit as scared as them. The thought that someone might actually fight back is totally alien to them.
Anybody know what the deal is on personally transporting a sidearm across Canada en route to Alaska? Paperwork, whatever?
