Deadly cell phones

Well, here we go again! Another life taken because of the use of cell phones while driving. When is our government going to realize how many accidents occur and how many lives are lost because of people using cell phones while driving?

The TimesDaily ran a story in the March 11 issue of a young boy in Tennessee running into a horse-drawn buggy with two people in it and killing the father and the horse because he was looking down at his cell phone.

It's dangerous enough to talk on the phone, but to text message while driving is insane.

Just last evening, I was driving down Florence Boulevard, when a young lady in a yellow Volkswagen proceeded to pass me in the inside lane.

As she approached, I noticed in my side mirror that she was getting really close to my vehicle. As she passed, she was completely across the center line, and I was moving over to give her room to pass.

When we both stopped at the next traffic light, sure enough, she was on the cell phone. She had no idea what she had done. Had I not been watching her, there would have been an accident. This must stop!

I realize that laws against talking on cell phones would not stop it completely, but it might curtail this action.

If your sentiments are as mine, call your senators and legislators insisting that a law be passed making it illegal to use a cell phone and drive.

It's really bad when you can compare driving while talking on a cell phone with driving under the influence of illegal drugs. You really can't tell the difference with most folks.
