RED BAY - The body of a 62-year-old Red Bay man was found just after midnight today in a creek where he frequently fished, authorities said.

They said Johnny Ward, 100 Pearson Road, Red Bay, apparently fell into the Bear Creek Canal late Tuesday night and drown.

Bear Creek Canal crosses Alabama 11, just north of Red Bay.

Franklin County Sheriff investigators said Ward had been fishing for several hours. When he did not return home when expected, his daughter unsuccessfully began looking for him around 10 p.m.

Sheriff’s officers Red Bay police found Ward in the creek just after midnight. Department officials said the body was about 20 yards from where he usually fished.
