COLBERT HEIGHTS - A welfare search of a residence Wednesday led to the discovery of nine children who were living where a methamphetamine lab was in operation.

Members of the Colbert County Sheriff’s Office, Colbert County Drug Task Force and the Colbert County Department of Human Resources searched a residence in the 5000 block of Woodmont Drive, south of Colbert Heights High School, and found an active meth lab. The children, ranging in ages from 15 years old to infant, and three adults, were at the residence.

Colbert County Sheriff Ronnie May said no arrests have been made but warrants are expected to be obtained Thursday.

May said the children were removed from the residence by DHR officials.

Authorities said the children were from two different families that were living in the house together.

The active meth lab was discovered in a tractor trailer truck parked outside the residence. Deputies said authorities had received information that meth also had been cooked inside the house a number of times.
