WILSON LAKE - One man was killed Thursday night when a barge collided with his cruiser boat just east of Wilson Dam, authorities said.

The victim's name was not immediately released, but emergency workers at the scene said he's likely in his 50s.

The collision happened justy after 8 p.m. and rescue workers and dive teams from several local agencies responded to the area. The man's body was found soon after the search began and taken to Lock Six boat ramp in Killen.

The collision apparently occurred behind the Indian Springs subdivision and the barge came to rest on the east shore close to the Sky Park area of the lake.

One resident in Kendall Gardens in Florence said he was monitoring marine traffic shortly after 8 p.m. and heard tugboat personnel react to hitting a boat and that the boat had broken apart.

The victim's cruiser boat apparently sank after the collision and divers were on the scene to search the boat for other possible victims.
