TUSCUMBIA -- Authorities say a Colbert County man has been arrested after being accused of trying to intimidate a witness.

Colbert County Sheriff Ronnie May said 28-year-old Derek E. Bates, 865 Cassie Davis St., Leighton, has been charged with intimidating a witness.

May said Bates has a pending drug case in circuit court and is accused of trying to intimidate a person who was scheduled to testify against him during the trial.

He remains in Colbert County Jail.
