Authorities look for purse snatcher

Florence police are looking for a woman accused of taking a purse from an older woman at a shopping facility.

Florence detective Jerry Pearson said the theft took place at 2:33 p.m. Friday at Foodland on Huntsville Road.

He said the suspect, described as a white woman, about 5 feet 6 inches tall with sandy blonde hair in a ponytail, walked into the business, walked up to the victim, a 61-year-old woman, grabbed her purse from the shopping cart and ran out of the building.

The suspect was wearing blue jeans and a long-sleeved pullover shirt with blue sleeves. The shirt had writing on the front and back.

Burglary under investigation

Authorities are asking for help in identifying a man who broke into a local business Aug. 11.

Florence police said the burglary took place around 11 p.m. at a tanning business in the Four-Lane Shopping Center.

"The man walked up and kicked in the front door glass," said Florence detective Jerry Pearson.

The suspect took a small amount of cash.

The suspect was wearing a white T-shirt and brown or tan cargo short pants. He was described as a white man with short brown hair and long sideburns and facial hair.

SHEFFIELD

Local man faces drug charges

A Sheffield man is facing drug-related charges after his arrest during the

weekend.

Derrick Dewayne Ramson, 25, 710 E. 14th St., Sheffield, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest, according to Sheffield police.

Officers saw Ramson, who had outstanding traffic warrants, as he was getting off a motorcycle. When officers Derreck Janzen and Chris Martinez approached him, Ramson ran, according to reports.

"While they were in pursuit, the officers saw him throw something down just before they caught him and took him into custody," said Sgt. Randy Butler.

Butler said officers discovered that the thrown items were 75 crack rocks.

Officials said the suspect's mother also was taken into custody at the time for trying to interfere with the arrest. She was charged with a misdemeanor.

Ramson is being held in the city jail without bail.

  • Theft: A heating pad, battery charger and wallet were taken from a business in the 500 block of West Avalon Avenue.
