3 charged when meth lab found

Authorities said a tip on possible illegal activity at a Lawrence County residence resulted in the arrest of three people after a drug manufacturing operation was discovered.

Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell said members of the Lawrence County Drug Task Force made the arrests at a residence on Lawrence 188, Moulton, after three methamphetamine labs were discovered.

The sheriff said Charles Jeffrey Adams, 976 Lawrence 188, Moulton, Misty Deann Lancaster, 30, 501 Suddith Road, Addison, and Tony Lee Gregory, 50, 976 Lawrence 188, Moulton, were all charged with first-degree possession of manufacturing a controlled substance, unlawful possession of anhydrous ammonia, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Mitchell said deputies found various items associated with the manufacturing of meth.

"After a further search, three one-pot cook style meth labs were discovered," the sheriff said. "In addition, officers found finished meth along with various drug paraphernalia."

The sheriff said a hazardous materials clean-up crew was called in to dispose of the labs and the materials found at the residence.

All three suspects were in the Lawrence County Jail on Tuesday without bail.

LAWRENCE COUNTY

Man arrested after altercation

Local officials say a Danville man has been charged after he was accused of throwing a lug wrench through the windshield of a car and hitting the driver.

Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell said Anthony David Roberts, 21, 1001 Morgan 195, Danville, has been charge with second-degree assault, second-degree criminal mischief and reckless endangerment. The arrest is the result of an incident that happened Aug. 24, in the Piney Grove community, which is in southern Lawrence County. The sheriff said Mitchell and his wife were visiting with some friends when a reported argument occurred.

"The situation escalated, and a physical altercation ensued," Mitchell said.

He said that during the altercation, Roberts is accused of picking up a four-way lug wrench and throwing it through the front windshield of the victim's vehicle. Mitchell said the lug wrench struck a passenger in the head causing a skull fracture.

"The victim required extensive medical treatment but is expected to make a full recovery," Mitchell said.

Roberts is being held in the Lawrence County Jail on bail of $27,000.

Officials: Burglar caught in the act

Local officials said a Colbert County man has been arrested after he was caught coming out of a business with items that he is accused of stealing.

Elijah Armstead Jr., 41, 1555 Plantview Drive, Cherokee, has been charged with two counts of third-degree burglary and second-degre escape, Sheffield police detective Capt. Scott Wallace said.

Wallace said Armstead is accused of breaking into Another Level night club and Sisters N Style on Second Street.

"Two officers - Bradley Skipworth and John Harkins - were across the street refueling their cars when they heard the alarm in the businesses going on," Wallace said. "They immediately went to the businesses and caught Armstead walking in the alleyway carrying the cash register and two bottles of liquor," Wallace said.

Wallace said that after Armstead had been taken to the police department, he crawled through a light fixture in the holding cell and escaped.

He said Armstead was caught a short time later in Cherokee. Armstead was in the Colbert County Jail on Tuesday without bail.
