LAWRENCEBURG, Tenn. - Ernie Maldonado and Trent Garland scored on short touchdown runs, and Andres Alejandre recovered two fumbles in the fourth quarter to help Lawrence County hold off Shelbyville Central 13-10 on Friday night.

The win was the Region 5-4A opener for Lawrence County.

The Wildcats (2-1, 1-0) did all their scoring in the first half as Maldonado ran 7 yards for the first score for an early 7-0 lead.

After Shelbyville Central (0-3, 0-1) tied it, Garland ran 5 yards for a 13-7 halftime advantage.

Shelbyville Central pulled within 13-10 on a 23-yard field goal by Angel AJarquin in the third quarter, but Alejandre preserved the win when he came up with his fumble recoveries in the fourth quarter.

Collinwood 35,

East Hickman 13

Collinwood used big plays to blow past East Hickman.

The Trojans (2-0) had scoring plays of 80, 68 and 35 yards to pull away from East Hickman.

Two Collinwood backs turned in 100-plus running games, led by Shannon Adams with 127 yards on seven carries. Robbie Cowham contributed 117 yards on six rushes. They also combined for three touchdowns.

Quarterback Max Risner also ran for one score and passed for another.

Moore County 17, Wayne County 14

LYNCHBURG, Tenn. - Andrew Atwood kicked a 20-yard field goal with eight seconds to play, lifting Moore County to an upset of Wayne County in a game that was delayed by 30 minutes in the second quarter because of lightning and rain.

Moore County led 14-6 at the half and put together a seven-minute scoring drive in the fourth quarter to set up Atwood's winning field goal.

Two Wayne County turnovers led to 14 Moore County points. Two penalties also helped kill a Wayne County scoring opportunity as well.

"We're puzzled right now," Wayne County coach Rick Rice said.

Moore County took a 14-0 lead midway through the second quarter. Tyler Rice answered with touchdown runs in the second and third quarters to tie it, but the Wildcats couldn't come up with a stop on Moore County's final drive
