Council approves several contracts

FLORENCE - FLORENCE
The city council approved the following items at its meeting Tuesday:
- a contract with The Carpet Store to replace commercial grade carpeting in city hall offices for $1,913;
- a contract with Shotcrete of America to replace a manhole on Waterloo Road at Cherokee Street for $6,500;
- a contract with Blue River Construction for landscaping at Court Street between Limestone Street and Veterans Drive and Limestone Street from Court Street to Seminary Street for $21,418;
- a contract with Fiber Planners for the first phase of fiber optic cable installation for the utilities department at a cost not to exceed $50,000;
- a contract with Northwest Alabama Community Health Association for $9,000 to provide health and dental care to low-income persons with insufficient insurance;
- a contract with the Boys and Girls Club of Northwest Alabama to provide activities and programs to area youth for $12,000;
- a contract with the Handy Hills Citizens for Progress to assist with computer training for low- and moderate-income residents for $9,000;
- a contract with the Florence Housing Authority for the operation of the Family Self-Sufficiency Program for $9,000;
- a contract with Lambert Ezell Durham Architecture and Interior Design for an additional dispatch center on Limestone Street for $110/hour for principals, $70/hour for supervisors, $60/hour for technical level I, $50/hour for technical level II and $40/hour for clerical personnel time;
- a contract with L.W. Fritts Construction Co. for the Heatherhurst and U.S. 72 sewer improvements for $436,178;
- appointment of Kevin Jangaard to the Tree Commission;
- an ordinance to rezone 2233 Cloyd Blvd. and 2430 N. Wood Ave. from single to multi-family residential.
The council also announced board openings on adjustments and appeals (three vacancies), agri-business (one vacancy), animal control (one vacancy), beautification (two vacancies), park and recreation (two vacancies), Shoals Economic Development Authority (two vacancies), and tree commission (two vacancies).
