FLORENCE
Police investigate stabbing
A Florence man is charged with second-degree assault in connection with a weekend stabbing, police said.
Michael David Allen, 45, is in the Lauderdale County Detention Center on the charge, investigator Jerry Pearson said. Bail has been set at $5,000.
Pearson said the incident happened when Allen and an unidentified victim got into a fight. Allen is accused of pulling a knife and stabbing the man in the left leg four times.
The stabbing happened at 1:30 a.m., Saturday at the intersection of Chisholm Road and Pine Street, Pearson said.
Allen was arrested a few blocks away, and still had the knife at the time, the investigator said.
SHEFFIELD
Store damaged in fire
A convenience store at 717 E. Second St. in Sheffield was damaged early Monday in a fire. Firefighters said no one was in the building at the time, and the damage was contained to the building, itself, and not the gas pumps.
Authorities with the Sheffield Fire Department and Alabama Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the cause of the fire.
