Benefit planned for musician

Some of the area's finest musicians will come together tonight for a good cause.

They're gathering on behalf of longtime Shoals musician and producer Joey Holder, who has spent the past 10 years battling Parkinson's disease.

The benefit begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Shoals Theater in downtown Florence.

Tickets are $20 and will be available at the door.

The event will feature performances by Lenny Leblanc, Will McFarlane, Marty Raybon, Mac McAnally, Walt Aldridge, Travis Wammack, Donnie Fritts, Life In Jesus, Lindell Cooley, Mike Curtis, Rachel Wilson, Mary Carter, Cindy Walker, other guests and an all-star band.

Registration set for assistance

Registration for the Salvation Army's Christmas Assistance program will be Oct. 20-24 for residents in Colbert, Franklin and Lauderdale counties.

Registration will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Salvation Army's headquarters, 1601 Huntsville Road in Florence. In order to register for assistance, the following information is necessary:

  • Social Security cards for all members of the household.

  • one additional form of identification.

  • phone number.

  • proof of income, which must be a current check stub or copy of a current check.

  • correct sizes for each child being assisted - infant through 12 years of age.

  • Social security number and date of birth for teens.

Additional registration dates will not be held after Oct. 24 unless there is proof of emergencies in households.
