Darrell R. Sandlin, a 27-year veteran in the newspaper industry, has been named publisher of the TimesDaily.

Sandlin most recently served as director of operations at the Clarion-Ledger in Jackson, Miss. He will begin the job Monday.

"I am excited about the opportunity to work at the TimesDaily and I am looking forward to learning the market and getting involved in the community," Sandlin said. "I'm anxious to find new ways of meeting the needs of our readers, advertisers and the Shoals community."

Sandlin has previous experience as production director at newspapers in Binghamton, N.Y., Jackson, Tenn., Tarentum, Pa., Richmond, Ind., San Bernardino, Calif, Gainesville, Ga., and Cocoa, Fla.

Sandlin also worked 10 years for USA Today, including three years as field operations manager in Arlington, Va.

"I am excited to make this announcement, both for our company and the Shoals community," said Scott Brown, TimesDaily interim publisher and director of operations for Tennessee Valley Printing Co. "Darrell's experience and vision make him the right person for this position.

"He's a relationship builder, and that is advantageous to our employees, readers, advertisers and in strengthening the TimesDaily's role in the community."

The TimesDaily is owned by Tennessee Valley Printing Co., which also owns The Decatur Daily and Moulton Advertiser.
