FLORENCE

Roy Moore to visit Shoals

Former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore, Republican candidate for Alabama governor in 2010, will be in the Shoals on Monday for an event at the Florence-Lauderdale Coliseum.

He will speak at 7 p.m.

Moore is president of the Foundation for Moral Law in Montgomery.

Moore was removed from office in 2003 for refusing to remove a Ten Commandments monument he had placed in the Alabama Judicial Building.

Moore is also an author, including the book "So Help Me God: The Ten Commandments, Judicial Tyranny and the Battle for Religious Freedom."

LITTLEVILLE

Firefighters hold fundraiser

The Littleville Firefighters and Ladies Auxiliary are holding a benefit barbecue dinner Friday.

The event will be 4-7 p.m. at the Littleville Senior Citizens Center across from the fire department.

The meal, which is being catered by Spring Valley Market, will feature ribs, smoked chicken, barbecue or chicken fingers with all the trimmings. Cost is $8 a plate and carryouts will be available.

FLORENCE

Storm spotters needed

The National Weather Service uses radar to scan the sky and detect potentially severe storms throughout the Tennessee Valley, but it relies on human eyes to monitor what is happening at ground level.

The Weather Service is looking for storm spotters to help track severe storms in the Shoals.

A training class for storm spotters is 6-8 p.m. today at Broadway Recreation Center in Florence.

The class is for residents interested in becoming a storm spotter and anyone with an interest in the weather.
