Hackleburg completes first unbeaten season since '97

HACKLEBURG - Ryan Bullock threw a pair of touchdown passes and ran for another as Hackleburg completed its first unbeaten regular season since 1997 with a 34-14 win against Phil Campbell.
Joel Ingle added 178 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries for the Panthers (10-0), who will host Vina in the opening round of the Class 1A playoffs.
Hackleburg led 14-7 at the half as Holland broke a 30-yard touchdown run and Christian Lolley caught a 21-yard TD pass from Bullock in the first quarter.
Phil Campbell, which turned the ball over five times, cut the lead to 14-7 in the second quarter on Jeff White's 1-yard run.
A three-touchdown flurry in the third quarter helped Hackleburg seal the win. Holland hauled in a 21-yard TD pass from Bullock, who later scored on a 27-yard run. Ingle scored the third touchdown of the quarter when he broke loose for a 75-yard touchdown run.
Phil Campbell (3-7) closed out the scoring with a 30-yard touchdown pass from White to Matt Waide.
Haleyville 19,
Winston County 0
DOUBLE SPRINGS - Haleyville's defense forced four turnovers as the Lions shut out Winston County in the regular-season finale.
The Lions (8-2) allowed only 59 yards of total offense to the Yellow Jackets in earning their sixth consecutive victory. It was the second shutout in the past three games for the Lions. Vaughn Whiteside sparked the Haleyville offense with two touchdown runs.
Whiteside opened the scoring with a 25-yard touchdown run with 2:09 remaining in the first quarter. The Lions missed the extra point, but led 6-0.
The Lions extended their lead to 12-0 early in the second quarter. Destin Dye scored the touchdown on a 7-yard run. Haleyville would take the 12-0 lead into halftime.
Whiteside capped the scoring with just 1:31 remaining with a 13-yard touchdown run. Wesley Marshals extra point made the final 19-0.
Haleyville will play at Cherokee County in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs next Friday.
Hatton 46,
Tharptown 0
HATTON - The Hornets (4-6, 3-5) missed the playoffs for a second-straight season, but they closed the season by shutting down the Wildcats (2-8, 1-5).
Devan Parker scored on both of his rushes and threw for another score to lead Hatton. The Hornets QB opened the game with a 65-yard TD run and less than a minute later, Jordan Montgomery added a 43-yard scoring run, staking Hatton to a 12-0 lead. Later in the first quarter, Parker scored on a 20-yard run, putting Hatton up 19-0.
Nich Hood scored from 4 yards out just seconds into the second quarter, and Parker closed the first half with a 62-yard TD pass to David Mims, giving Hatton a 32-0 halftime lead.
Josh Mason scored on a 6-yard TD run in the third, and Chandler Rutherford closed the night on a 38-yard TD run.
Hamilton 48,
Sumiton Christian 7
SUMITON - The Aggies (9-1) closed their season with what amounted to a playoff tune-up against the winless Eagles.
Hamilton, which opens playoff play at home next week against Colbert Heights, capped its region championship season in style, scoring 48 unanswered points before Sumiton Christian finally got on the board late in the fourth quarter.
The Aggies wasted no time, as the took the opening kickoff in for a touchdown on a 2-yard run by Bud Coleman. Following an Eagles punt, Mitch Stults hit Codey Frederick for a 42-yard TD strike, putting Hamilton up 14-0. On the ensuing Sumiton Christian possession, Stults stepped in front of a pass and returned the pick 38 yards for another TD and a 21-0 lead.
Ryan King scored the first of his two touchdowns next on a 61-yard run on Hamilton's first drive of the second quarter. King led the Aggies with 123 yards on seven carries, and added a 19-yard TD in the third.
Stults capped the first-half scoring on a 27-yard touchdown pass to senior Blake Inmon, giving Hamilton a 35-0 halftime lead.
Quentin May finished off the scoring with a 25-yard TD run with nine minutes to play in the fourth.
Cherokee 36, Waterloo 20
WATERLOO - Cherokee scored 33 first-half points and rolled to the win over Waterloo.
Kodi Berryman got Cherokee (2-8) going with touchdown runs of 7 and 12 yards in the first quarter. The second score was set up after Waterloo had a bad snap on a punt and Cherokee got the ball at the 12-yard line.
The Indians pushed the lead to 20-0 when Jake Roberson passed 29 yards to Tyler Fountain for a touchdown.
Cherokee scored two more touchdowns in the second quarter when Matthew Brown scored on a 16-yard run and Collin Hester added a 3-yard scoring run.
Waterloo (2-7) scored in the third quarter when Jonathan Word passed to Michael Carmack for 12 yards.
Dillon Sharp added a touchdown in fourth quarter for the Cougars before Cherokee kicked a field goal.
Word ended the scoring late in the quarter with a 1-yard run.
