SARALAND, Ala. - A 31-year-old man has been charged with murdering his father-in-law.
Police have signed a murder warrant against John Lamar Pope of Kushla in the slaying of 57-year-old Anthony Embley Sr., of Saraland, who was found dead Oct. 21 in the hallway of his home.
Authorities say Pope was already in custody for a probation violation when Saraland police signed the murder warrant.
The Mobile Press-Register says Pope has been arrested on 15 felony charges in the last four years and served three years in prison on burglary convictions from Mobile and Bay Minnete.
Police found Embley's body after co-workers told authorities he hadn't shown up for work. Embley was an Alabama National Guardsman who worked as a Black Hawk helicopter mechanic.
