  • "Wonder why Muscle Shoals Police Department can't stop the speeders and the stop-sign running on Firestone Avenue in Muscle Shoals? They patrol it, but you can see them a mile away and so everybody starts slowing up and stopping. Looks like they could stop on a side street and kind of watch it and control this up through here. We have kids that we love."
  • "President Obama must pull back from sending more troops to Afghanistan, and we must start with our next-door neighbor. We must teach people how to love us. We teach animals, don't we? Then why not people?"
  • "What about these big trucks that's putting out this big black smoke, this terrible exhaust, going down the road? Especially these dump trucks. Isn't there some kind of law against a pollution like that?"
  • "I'd like to say good job to Alvin Holmes for filing this lawsuit to block this no-bid computer contract that Bob Riley signed into law - but Bob Riley wants to cut out no-bid contracts. And he's signed them into law. I guess just when it benefits Bob. When Bob's getting a kickback, it's OK, but when anybody else is getting one it's against ethics. Hypocrite is what we call them, Bob. Hypocrites."
  • "Any person that cannot visit a hospital or eat at a restaurant without smoking needs to stay at home."
  • "I was reading the paper Thursday and I read the piece on Wilson Dam Road. I've been checking all around over there and I've been trying to find out who the few people that's holding it up are. And if I find out, I will put a lawsuit on them because I've nearly had some bad wrecks. They're really holding up everything. It's just not right. I will have a lawsuit on soon as I find out who it is."
  • "Well, one of the best ways to prevent the flu is, like I said, clean those hands. Don't bite your fingernails. Don't chew on your coat string. Wash your hands constantly, especially when you go out to eat. Notice the people that you're around. If they've got dirty fingernails, you don't need to be around them. And clean mouth. Oral hygiene. Very important."
  • "Why did the City Council give permission to put a cell tower on Weeden School ground, when cell towers emit electronic waves that have been linked to cancer? With all the kids being exposed. Also, what a big chance of that cell tower falling during high winds. That was idiotic."
  • "Lane Kiffin is acting nothing more than like the spoiled brat he is, and the TimesDaily should be embarrassed by the editorial in Thursday's paper."
  • "I would just like to say that the city employees are misusing the city vehicles for their own personal use and I'd like to see Bobby Irons put a stop to it. Because every time you see a city vehicle it's at a bank, getting their dinner, doing their own personal business on city time in a city vehicle - and that's the taxpayers' money being wasted."
  • "You know, I know the Republicans is going to have to go along with the big insurance companies and I know Democrats like Parker Griffith is going to have to kiss the chamber of commerce's butt in Huntsville, but thank God the Democrats are moving ahead with a public option for the poor and the middle class in this country. Democrats, go forward."
  • "St. Florian's Oktoberfest decorations were wonderful. But now as you drive by, their appearance is a blight on the community."
  • "In reference to the young lady that was gang raped and the people stood by and no one offered to help, you know, I guess we're down ... people talk about going to the dogs. We're past the dogs."
  • "The editorial about football referees in the SEC is mistaken. If he knows very much about football, the young man, he knows if a coach starts criticizing or whining, it soon affects the boys and they begin to do the same thing. They become beggars and whiners in games over everything they think is wrong. It would be bad ... Coach Bryant said if you played like you ought to, there wouldn't be an occasion for a referee to take a game away from you by a call."
  • "You know, the president wants people to have insurance. There's a lot of people laid off. There's some that's already exhausted their unemployment benefits. How in the world can we be fined for insurance that we can't afford? That's what I don't understand. I know everybody needs insurance, but you can't get what you can't afford. So, how in the world can they fine us? I just don't understand."
  • "Americans living today are witnessing history being made because our country is at a crossroads. Will we take the road back to the government our Founding Fathers set up and Americans have shed their blood for and to our God-given liberties or will we go down the dark road of fascism, the likes of Nazi, Germany, that will lead to the destruction of our liberties and to the creation of a worldwide totalitarian state?"
  • "To the person complaining about the road being closed there at Happy Hollow Bridge, maybe they didn't get a notice, but it was in the paper this week. Maybe they didn't get the paper, but if you went that way all the time then you would have had to notice that the guard rail was out. You didn't think they was going to leave that guard rail out. That's for your safety. That's the reason they're working there to put it back in."
  • "For the person who called in and said about the workers putting up a sign for the Happy Hollow Bridge, do you read a paper? Evidently you do because the article was in there about it being closed."
  • "After reading the editorial Friday, I cannot understand why there's a controversy over who should be on the tourism board - because Mr. Hunt had three votes, Ms. Ingle got eight votes. Does that make sense that there'd be a question about it?"
  • "I live not too far from where the lady saw the man dump the puppies with the doghouse, except, at least they're leaving a doghouse now when they dump their puppies they no longer want. There's got to be a special place in the eternal hereafter for people who abuse animals like that."
  • "As I watch this adversarial action concerning the appointment to our tourism board, I wonder if anyone has thought of increasing the board by one, if each are willing to serve. We could then be served by two outstanding citizens. I'm not even elected and can figure this out."
  • "Why would you make the parking deck or the emergency room parking lot a designated smoking area when we'd still have to walk through the smokers to get into the hospital? If they can make it out to the parking deck, they can make it their cars and they can sit in their cars and smoke."
  • "I have observed the bikers that travel on Woodmont Drive, which is so heavily congested, and do not give way for the automobile traffic. I just went through Sheffield's new bike trail, which by my speedometer, registered 6.1 miles and it has all the facilities that they need."
  • "I just witnessed a trashy person walk a little black and white poodle out behind the Muscle Shoals police office and it pooped right beside the sidewalk in the well-manicured area right behind the post office. That gives pet owners a bad name. That's just about as trashy as you can get, to let it lay there for somebody to step in or have to run over it with a lawn mower."
  • "I agree with Councilman Jordan. A public park adjacent to a residential area should not be designated as a smoking area. The hospital should provide a smoking area on their own property."
  • "Many people do not have their regular flu shots. Bad planning for places. Shots were given only two days per place on the same day. Health departments, another day. Many people came and many people were turned away. One place, they only had 70 shots. And some doctors didn't get their flu shots for their patients. This has made a hardship on the patients."
  • "To the person that broke in my house, I just want to tell you that it hurt deeply. May God bless you anyway."
  • "Since Florence Country Club is such a so much better golf course than Blackberry Trail, why doesn't the city of Florence buy the country club and use the Blackberry Trail for a landfill?"
