George R. Wilson, age 85, of Sheffield, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009.
His family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. His funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Mike Pope officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield.
Mr. Wilson was a native of Nashville, Tenn., a Navy veteran of World War II and Korea and was retired from the Civil Service. He was a member of the American Legion for more than 60 years. He was a current member of Post 0031, Tuscumbia, and he served as past commander for Post 307 in Illinois. He was a member of VFW Post 4919 of Sheffield, the NRA and AINAD Legion of Honor.
He is survived by his sons, Ronald George Wilson and Richard Curtis; daughters, Elizabeth Curtis, Deborah Dubson and Patricia Maier; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, of Tuscumbia, or Sheffield Public Library.
Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, is directing.
