Elna S. Mitchell

Elna Shaw Mitchell, 82, of South Bend, Ind., passed away Nov. 1, 2009, at Sunset House, South Bend. She retired in 1988 from Uniroyal Corp. after 30 years of service. She was born Oct. 19, 1927, in Florence to Carl and Susie Belle (Killen) Shaw. On Dec. 16, 1950, in Florence, she married Walter Allen Mitchell, who preceded her in death Jan. 16, 1978.
Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her two daughters, Debbie (Donald) Karczewski, of South Bend, Ind., and Judy (Jack) Holderman, of Sun Prairie, Wis.; three grandchildren, Amy Ciula, Laurie (Mike) Kindley and Melissa (Alex) VanFleet; and three great-grandchildren, Samantha Ciula, Cody Anderson and Kimberly Kindley. Also surviving are three sisters, Patsy Lindsey, of Tuscumbia, Ala., and Kathy Moody, of Sheffield, Ala.; and two brothers, Jim Shaw, of Little Rock, Ark., and Johnny Shaw, of Greenhill, Ala.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Christine Price in 2004 and Betty Jane Shaw in 1969; and five brothers, Bobby Shaw in 1992, Ed Shaw in 2008, Wayne Shaw in 2001, Paul Shaw in 1979, and an infant brother in 1926.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Greenhill Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at the funeral home, with Brother Charles Kretzer officiating. Burial will be in Richardson Chapel Cemetery.
