Two neighbors injured in crash

Two men who live in the same housing complex were injured after a two-car collision early Tuesday morning, officials said.

Willie James Young, 54, 579 Gray Court, Tuscumbia, and Elmer Virgil Davis, 85, 546 Gray Court, Tuscumbia, were injured when they collided at Dickson and Ford streets. Davis was taken to Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, where he is listed in critical condition in the facility's intensive care unit. Young was taken to Shoals Hospital in Muscle Shoals, where he was treated and released.

Reports indicate Young was traveling south on Dickson Street in a 1976 Chevrolet Monte Carlo when he collided with Davis, who was in a 2002 Ford Ranger on Fourth Street attempting to cross Dickson Street.

Police said the collision, which took place just after 8:30 a.m., pushed both cars into the yard of a residence at the intersection. Young's vehicle hit the front porch of the house, while Davis rammed into a utility pole. The accident remains under investigation by the Tuscumbia Police Department.

MOULTON

Three arrested for meth lab

Authorities said the discovery of five one-pot cook methamphetamine labs at a Moulton residence resulted in the arrest of three people.

Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell said Lawrence County Drug Task Force Agents made the arrests after following up on complaints from residents.

Those arrested are Kristopher Lynn Grissom, 24, 961 Lawrence 327, Moulton, unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia; Michelle Nelson, 27, same address, unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and second-degree possession of marijuana; and Marguerite Grissom, same address, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, second-degree possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Mitchell said task force agents went to the residence to follow up on complaints of illegal drug activity and while there they found the meth labs, marijuana, a scale, rolling papers and other smoking devices. They also found several components used during meth manufacturing, according to reports.

Mitchell said agents believe the three people had been making meth at the residence for some time.

All three were taken to the Lawrence County Jail.

FLORENCE

Search continues for wanted man

Local authorities are continuing to search for a man wanted on theft and forgery charges who has not shown up for court, officials said. U.S. Marshals said Joseph James Stout, 44, of Madison, has numerous warrants for failure to appear for trial in Lauderdale County.

Officers attempted to arrest Stout about two weeks ago at a residence in Madison but he was able to escape before he was taken into custody. U.S. Marshals said Stout has extensive work experience at auto body shows in Lauderdale, Morgan and most recently Limestone County.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call local law enforcement officers or Shoals Area CrimeStoppers at 386-8685.

Lawrence man in jail after assault

A man accused of beating another man with a baseball bat is facing charges.

Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell said Christopher Steven Jackson is in jail after beating a man he accused of stealing from him.

Jackson was charged with first-degree assault in connection with the incident that took place Saturday night.

The sheriff said Jackson accused the victim of stealing some items from him two weeks ago. Reports indicate that about 9 p.m. Saturday, Jackson went to the victim's residence on Lawrence 236 in the Hatton Community armed with a baseball bat and hit the man in the head several times.

"The victim had to be transported to Huntsville Hospital, where he is in serious condition in the ICU unit," Mitchell said.

Jackson is out of jail on bail totaling $30,000.

FLORENCE

Man injured in late-night robbery

Police are looking for four men who broke into a residence and tried to rob a man before assaulting him.

Florence police say the incident happened late Friday at a residence in the 600 block of West Irvine Street.

The victim told officers the men demanded $600 they claimed he owed them and threatened him with a knife, according to reports.

Detectives said once they found out he didn't have any money they assaulted him and left. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 768-2728 or Shoals Area CrimeStoppers at 386-8685.

Man attacked, beaten with pipes

A man was injured early Sunday when he was attacked and beaten with pipes while he was inside a workshop, police say.

According to reports, the beating took place about

1:30 a.m. inside a workshop at a residence in the 300 block of South Spurr Street.

Detectives said the victim, 29, had just gotten home and was inside his shop on the Internet when a vehicle pulled up and four teenagers got out and attacked him.

In the report, the victim said he did not know any of the teens, nor did he know why they attacked him.

Authorities said he sustained injuries to his head and chest and abrasions to the face. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 768-2728 or Shoals Area CrimeStoppers at 386-8685.

MOULTON

Decatur man faces charges

A Morgan County man on supervised probation has been arrested in connection with a residential burglary that took place in October, authorities said.

Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell said Justin Randall Thomas Austin, 26, 2716 Jarvis St., S.W. Decatur, is charged with third-degree burglary and first-degree theft of property.

Austin is accused of breaking into a residence on Alabama 36 in the Wren Community on Oct. 25.

"He was developed as a suspect early in the investigation, and as we continued to look into the burglary and at Austin as a suspect, we found he was on Community Corrections and had to wear an ankle monitor," Mitchell said.

"We looked at the information provided through the tracking device and discovered Austin was at the victim's residence at the time of the break-in."

Austin is being held without bail in the Lawrence County Jail.
