Commission to address cemetery request

LAUDERDALE COUNTY - The Lauderdale County Commission has set a public hearing as part of its approval process in a request to form a private cemetery in the Gravelly Springs community.
The public hearing Monday will be to hear any opposition to the proposal for the family cemetery to be located on Lauderdale 129, which is off Waterloo Road.
During a work session, the commission met with Ricky Sharp, whose family owns the property where the cemetery would be placed.
Sharp said the property was deeded specifically for a private family cemetery in 1991.
"But it was never established as such at that time," he said.
County administrator Jenoice Bevis informed the commission that Sharp had gone through the necessary steps in getting the property surveyed and approved by the health department.
Sharp also provided the commission with written notices from adjoining property owners who have no opposition to the proposal.
County officials said Sharp had taken all the necessary steps in getting the site permitted.
"The only thing left is for the public hearing and then the request being presented to the commission to vote on," Bevis said.
She said the commission will vote on the request after the public hearing.
