Stren Series championship

A Shoals anglers remains in striking distance of victory in the Stren Series championship bass tournament under way on Pickwick and Wilson lakes.
Jonathan Newton, of Rogersville, caught five bass Friday that weighed 16 pounds, 4 ounces, boosting his two-day total to 35 pounds, 7 ounces. Arkansas angler Mark Rose leads the tournament, which ends today, with 37 pounds, 11 ounces. Keith Pace, of Arkansas, is third with 32 pounds, 3 ounces.
Newton is optimistic he will be able to find big bass again today and make them bite.
The start of Friday’s competition was delayed 75 minutes because of heavy fog on Pickwick Lake.
Today’s weigh-in begins at 3 p.m. at Florence Walmart. A family funzone, featuring activities for adults and children gets under way at noon at Walmart.
