Lions move into GSC title game

PENSACOLA, Fla. - North Alabama women's soccer team extended its historic season Friday with a 4-0 win over Alabama-Huntsville in the semifinals of the Gulf South Conference Tournament at Pensacola's Brosnaham Park.
With the victory, the Lions (18-2-1) earn their first post-season win in the history of the program.
Tassia Augusto scored two second-half goals to lead UNA, which advances to Sunday's GSC championship match.
The Lions will play at 11 a.m. against West Florida, which beat Christian Brothers 6-0.
UNA took a 1-0 lead into the half after Hollie Loud connected on a penalty kick at the 7:17 mark. In the second half, Augusto took a cross from Stephanie Bradshaw and scored at 50:02 to put the Lions ahead 2- 0.
Chloe Roberts recorded her team-high 30th goal of the season at 60:08 with an unassisted score before Augusto's second goal at 68:23 made the final score 4-0. For the match, North Alabama held a 19-9 advantage in shots.
UNA goalkeeper Alex McLay notched her eighth shutout of the season. McLay had four saves on the day.
LAKE Buena Vista, Fla., - UNA's women's basketball team let an 11-point second half lead slip away as Southern New Hampshire rallied for a 63-60 season-opening victory over the Lions on Friday in the opening round of the Walt Disney Tip-Off Classic.
The Lions (0-1) led by nine at the break, and held a 40-29 advantage early in the second half before the Penmen used a 12-2 run to get back in the game. SNH tied the game at 44-44 with just over 12 minutes to play, then later used an 11-0 run to go ahead 55-47 with 8:25 remaining.
UNA answered with nine straight points to go on top 56-55, but the Penmen (1-0) took the lead for good on the ensuing possession with a 3-point basket by Libby Cullerot.
Rebounding hurt the Lions as SNH held a commanding 51-35 advantage. UNA also struggled from 3-point range, hitting just 9-of-35 shots from beyond the arc.
Dana Jackson finished with a team-high 15 points and Lacy Lewis added 14 points.
UNA remain at Walt Disney World to face Northeastern State today at 1:30 p.m.
