  • Former Lauderdale County District Judge Deborah Bell Paseur has been chosen to participate in the Toll Fellowship Program sponsored by the Council of State Governments. She is part of a group of 37 nationwide to participate in the development program that focuses on empowering leaders from all three branches of government.
  • Debra Coble, a partner in the law firm of Potts & Young, has been named president of the Lauderdale County Bar Association. Also selected to serve on the board were Ryan G. Brake, a partner in the Florence office of Carr Allison, who is vice president, and Keith Medley as secretary/treasurer.
  • Freddie Copeland and Ed Matlock have joined Wise Alloys. Copeland, who holds bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of North Alabama, is director of reclamation and manufacturing operations at the Muscle Shoals facility. He was previously employed by Aleris, Wabash Alloys and Reynolds Metals. He has extensive experience in melting and casting. Matlock is director of purchasing operations. He has experience in directing and managing all aspects in the supply chain and global sourcing areas. He was previously employed by Lochinvar Corp., Ingersoll Rand and Square D.
  • New car dealer Deke Damson has been elected chairman of the Automobile Dealers Association of Alabama. He began working at his family's dealership in 1982 and graduated from the National Automobile Dealers Association's Dealer Candidate Academy in 1987. Damson Automotive has Nissan and Honda franchises in Florence, Honda in Decatur, and Honda and Acura in Huntsville.
  • Hospice of the Shoals has announced five newly appointed members to the all-volunteer board, which oversees the not-for-profit organization. The new members are Anna Carbine, Jackie Thomas, Dee Mussleman, Roger Ray and Larry Sneed. New board officers are Pat Burney, president; Janet Port, vice president; Betty Achorn, secretary; and J. Matt Cooper, treasurer.
  • Vonnie Kelly, a Muscle Shoals resident and designer for Celebrating Home, recently attended the company's Rally 2009 conference. The meeting was geared to re-energize designers. "The most beneficial attributes to the rally included the camaraderie among designers, the educational training sessions and the informative workshops," Kelly said.
