Talking turkey ... chicken and pets
Elementary students dish all things Thanksgiving

Elementary students from two Shoals area schools - Covenant Christian in Tuscumbia and Leighton Elementary - recently talked to staff writer Jennifer Crossley about topics ranging from Benjamin Franklin to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Some responses were expected, others were, well, let's just say quite
imaginative.
First are what fifth-graders at Leighton Elementary had to say.
What's your least favorite Thanksgiving food?
"Sweet potatoes."
What's your favorite part of
Thanksgiving?
"Eating the food."
Favorite food?
"Dressing."
What are you thankful for this year?
"My family."
If you could invite anyone to Thanksgiving dinner, who would it be?
"Benjamin Franklin because he invented electricity, and he also did something with Philadelphia."
What are you thankful for this year?
"My new dog, Hogan, a weenie dog that's brown and black."
Following are comments from fourth-graders at Covenant Christian School.
What is the coolest part of the Thanksgiving meeting between the pilgrims and Native Americans?
"Probably when Squanto showed them how to plant corn and how to fish."
Do you have a favorite float in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade?
"Snoopy."
If you could invite anyone to Thanksgiving dinner, who would you ask?
"My teacher (Ms. Handley) because she's my favorite teacher."
Are there any games your family plays at Thanksgiving?
"We call it Hugo. It's German game. It's a really long name, and it's hard to pronounce."
What do you do in this game?
"You have this little ghost person and there are people, and they try to get away so the ghost doesn't get them, and if the ghost gets them they go into the dungeon. It's a certain amount of points off if they go to the dungeon."
Do you have a favorite food on Thanksgiving?
"Chicken."
What kind? Fried? Grilled?
"Just plain."
Is there a food you look forward to eating?
"Sweet Potato Casserole."
