Falcons fall to Trojans

FLORENCE - Sophomore Ryan Johnson scored 16 points and LSU-bound Ralston Turner added 10 points and six rebounds as Muscle Shoals held Florence to just 14 first-half points en route to a 42-28 win.

The Trojans (2-1) held Florence to just 5-of-16 shooting from the field in the first half, limiting the Falcons to just four attempts beyond the 3-point line.

Devonta Anderson had a team-high 10 points for Florence, which fell to 1-1 with the loss.

n Rogers 67, Waterloo 51: Trevor Conley had a game-high 25 points in the win for Rogers (1-0). Terry Robinson had 17 points for the Pirates.

Dylan Sharp added 13 points for the Cougars. Casey Crowell and Zack Graves both had 10 points in the loss.

n Wilson 60, Central 42: Connor Vickery sank five 3-pointers, including three straight in the third quarter that helped Wilson extend a 21-14 halftime lead.

Vickery scored all 15 of his point from beyond the arc for Wilson (3-1). Travis Daniels scored a game-high 21 points for the Warriors, and Jordan McDaniel added 13.

Mikie Stanfield (15) and Darrian Howell (12) scored in double digits for Central (0-2).

n Phil Campbell 52, Cherokee 34: Lawrence Butts led Phil Campbell (4-1) with 13 points. Matt Waid had 10 points in the win for the Bobcats.

Cody Durham led Cherokee with 10 points.

n Covenant Christian 48, Decatur Heritage 34: Tyler Farris had a game-high 22 points to lead Covenant Christian (5-0). Chris Oliver had nine points in the loss for Decatur Heritage (1-4).

n Lauderdale County 54, Lexington 50: Wesley Blade had 17 points in the win for Lauderdale County. Chris Mangrum added 16 points. Rory White had 10 points in the win.

Hunter Roberson scored a game-high 23 points for Lexington.

n Colbert Heights 65, Hatton 64: Josh Balta scored a season-high 30 points as Colbert Heights (2-1) held off a late Hatton rally for the win.

Balta finished 9-of-12 from the free-throw line, and hit 5-of-9 3-point attempts.

Luke Brackin had 21 points in the loss for Hatton, while Nick Hood added 12 points.

n Collinwood 53, Cornersville 46: Collinwood took the lead in the first quarter and held off a late rally by Cornersville to earn the win.

Jacob Gobble scored 20 points to lead the Trojans (2-1). Marcel Brown paced Cornersville with 16 points.

n Hickman County 65, Wayne County 62: Micah Brantley had 20 points in the victory against Wayne County.

Hunter Lane had 18 points for Wayne County( 2-1). Logan Skelton added 14 points in the loss.

Girls

n Central 56, Wilson 37: Danah and Darah Gilchrist combined to score 25 points as Central defeated Wilson to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Danah Gilchrist finished the game with 14 points and six rebounds, while Darah Gilchrist added 11 points and five rebounds.

n Muscle Shoals 50, Florence 43: Jasmine Hammon had 16 points to lead the Trojans (1-1) to a win. Marenoa King had 11 points in the win.

Jasmine Johnson had a game-high 19 points. Jasmine Green had 11 points for Florence (1-1) in the loss.

Elena Chowning had 11 points in the loss for Wilson (1-3).

n Rogers 53, Waterloo 46: Rogers overcome a sluggish start to win its season-opener against Waterloo.

The Cougars held an 18-8 lead after one quarter. Rogers (1-0) cut the margin to 28-25 at halftime and trailed 37-36 after three quarters before rallying for the victory.

Brianna Scott and Karli Grigsby scored 14 points apiece to lead Rogers. Grigsby also had 17 rebounds. Morgan Parker led Waterloo (1-4) with 13 points.

n Belgreen 63, Phillips 38: Belgreen remained unbeaten as the Bulldogs pounded Phillips.

Amber Smith scored 15 points in the first half to help Belgreen (6-0) take a commanding 37-14 lead into halftime. Smith finished with 22 points to lead the Bulldogs and Anna DeVaney added 10. Kaitlyn Atkins paced Phillips with 14 points.

n Winfield 68, Haleyville 32: Winfield jumped out to a 29-6 first-quarter lead en route to an easy victory over Haleyville.

Brook Beasley led Winfield (1-0) with 15 points. Tori Batchelor scored 12 points for Haleyville (1-1).

n Covenant Christian 52, Decatur Heritage 44: Julie Odell's 18 points led Covenant Christian's (3-2) four players to reach double digits. Anna Claire Noblit had 12 points for the Eagles. Emily Odell had 11 points, along with Taylor Beth Noblit's 10 points.

n Collinwood 61, Cornersville 45: Allie Ward had a game-high 20 points to lead Collinwood (2-1) to a win. Jessie Parker had 15 points, along with Summer Thompson's 10 points.

n Lexington 76, Lauderdale County 70 (OT): Taylor Chapman's 23 point, 14 rebound double-double helped lead Lexington to a overtime victory over Lauderdale County.

Ashton Kerby had 14 points in the win. Bree Puckett added 10 points for the Bears (2-0).

Danielle Grisham had 13 points in the loss for the Tigers. Lacey Hampton added 14 points.

n Wayne County 44, Hickman County 41: Carley Daniel had a game-high 26 points in the win for Wayne County (2-1).

Kaylee Pickard had 14 points in the loss and Kelsey Wright had 10 points.

n Tharptown 54, Vina 23: Choloe Lang had 14 points to lead Tharptown (5-1) past Vina. Chealsea McCluskey had 11 points for the Wildcats.

n Tharptown 51, Phil Campbell 43: Kendra Baker led the Wildcats with 14 points in their win against Phil Campbell. Chealsea McCluskey had 13 points.

Ciara Harville had 13 points for Phil Campbell.
