  • "If people are so worried about the landfill, how about recycling and giving people in need the things that are good instead of throwing them in the trash?"
  • "To the people over on Cypress Creek who are protesting using the golf course as a new landfill, you already have a landfill. This is not going to be a new landfill, just expanding on the existing landfill when it finally reaches saturation. So, you already have one."
  • "God gave us a wonderful, wonderful gift, and that was the mind, the brain. I guess if you wanted to, refer to it as one of the best computers ever invented. The problem is, we've installed the wrong software, or either, the mind got a virus and it crashed. We all have ability to think for ourselves. The problem is, we make it complicated."
  • "I would like to know who are the owners of the Florence Golf and Country Club, how much did they invest to purchase the club and did they make a profit by selling to the city of Florence. I believe citizens of Florence have a right to know the answers to these questions."
  • "I believe the hog flu has infected the Florence council members' hearts and minds. Why else would they be making these bad decisions?"
  • "After watching all those good folks talk to the council members about putting a dump next to Cypress Creek, I've come to one conclusion. The council members have a bad case of ear wax buildup."
  • "Someone called stating no one cared as long as the landfill was in the African American community. I'm not from this town and had no idea the old landfill was so close to a residential area or that, if what I have heard is true, methane is leaking into homes. Is that really true?"
  • "It sounds like to me today (Sunday) from the article that was written about the casual meetings between Andy Betterton and the mayor and the various other council members discussing the purchase of this land, that they need a definition of what a meeting off the record, a no sunshine meeting means. It means that you meet informally and discuss something that should be city business only."
  • "This is not a complaint against the TimesDaily. I'm just wondering. I have access to an Athens, Decatur and Huntsville paper on Sunday and I'm wondering why all three of those papers, especially the Athens paper, has way more coupons in their sections with the comics and everything, than the Florence paper has. I got more than double the coupons out of the Athens paper than the Florence paper. I'm just wondering why."
  • "I read in Sunday's TimesDaily about a lady over in Sheffield who was arrested for growing marijuana in her basement. What I understand is they didn't find any marijuana but they found some grow materials. But anyway, she is being held, the paper said, without bond in the Sheffield jail. Isn't that excessive for something that's legal in California and 10 other states?"
  • "I hope you'll print this on behalf of all the relatives of the people who were beheaded by the Iranians over there in that Iraqi war. The Americans were beheaded. And you never hear anything about it, but I just saw on Channel 14 CNN News where they're taking up for the Iraqi people of what the American soldiers did to them. Isn't it high time we took up for our soldiers?"
  • "To the person who called in about Sarah Palin staying home, taking care of her kids and grandkids, she can run this country better from Alaska. She has more integrity, more values than Obama has ever had - in Washington, in Chicago or Indonesia, anywhere he's ever been. Obama is a nothing."
