Famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright often stated that his houses were not only homes, but also works of art. Few dispute that claim after touring one of his creations in Florence, the Rosenbaum House. The house is the only Frank Lloyd Wright structure in Alabama and one of only 26 pre-World War II Usonian houses in the United States. The Rosenbaum house dates back to 1939 when Stanley Rosenbaum commissioned Wright to design his first home as a gift for his bride, Mildred.
The house, which is near downtown Florence, is a National Historic Property. Florence purchased the L-shaped house from the Rosenbaum family in 1999 with the sole purpose of restoring the home to its original form. The Rosenbaum House opened for tours in 2002.

The Rosenbaum home living room.
This house, along with another Wright house, incorporated the first carport, use of under floor heating, curtain walls, and a multi-level, cantilevered roof and is constructed of all natural materials such as cypress, brick and glass. The outdoors can be accessed from almost every room.
A true testament to the artistic brilliance of Wright is seen in the design of the house as well as the furnishings, light fixtures and hardware.
