George Lindsey/University of North Alabama Film Festival

George Lindsey, better known by some as "Goober" in the Andy Griffith Show, has lent his name to the film festival, which attracts national and international entries each year. Lindsey is a University of North Alabama graduate and starred on TV and in movies.

Cash awards are given to the best film as well as winners of numerous individual categories. One of the Best of Show recipients, Shane Acker’s "9," was an Oscar nominated film.

Ernest Borgnine is one of numerous guests who have appeared at the festival. Lucas Black, Stephen Root, Robert Hall and Donnie Fritts are other actors who have appeared.

Lindsey’s film and television scripts are housed at UNA’s Collier Library, along with a collection of Borgnine’s scripts.
