Officials took the following action during Monday's meeting:
Sheffield City Council
- approved a new comprehensive sign ordinance that will become a part of the Sheffield city code.
- approved a retail beer and wine license for Qin Fang Chen, doing business as the Ichiban Restaurant at 1207 S. Jackson Highway.
- approved the hiring of two temporary workers for the street department at a rate of $10 per hour with no benefits.
- approved a special events liquor license for the El Rey Restaurant at the Webster Hotel and Suites for a comedy show.
- appointed Nathan Ryan to a three-year term on the Civil Service Board.
- approved a $995 expenditure to purchase new accounting software for the city clerk's office.
- approved the low bid of $5,994 from C & H Heating and Cooling for the installation of a new heating and air conditioning system for Fire Station No. 1.
