Hillshire plant’s closing plan ‘floored’ Florence mayor

FLORENCE — Hillshire Brands Co., one of the area’s largest employers, announced this morning in a news release it will close the Florence plant, which employs 1,100 people.

The plant is scheduled to close Dec. 30.

    Perhaps if City Officials and the Tourism Board would stop promoting this area as a "Retirement Town" we could obtain better paying jobs here, where are the industries? All we get is Motels, Restaurants and Dollar Stores, you cannot make a living and raise a family off minimum wage jobs!

    You got that right. It seams the more we try the more we lose. When someone comes in with a business to help unemployment then someone leaves and takes it away.
