FLORENCE — After years of waiting for a football program, Mars Hill fans had to wait just a little longer for their first victory.

The skinny: One team will get its first win of the season as these two winless teams meet in a non-region game. ... Waterloo is coming off a 46-0 loss to R.A. Hubbard and has scored just 12 points in its past three games. ... The Cougars are allowing 46.2 points per game. ... Mars Hill lost 56-16 last week to Hatton. ... Gates Killen kicked a 27-yard field goal and returned a kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown for the Panthers last week.

DADE CITY, Fla. — Forrest Knight shot 6-under 66 on Monday, and teammates Michael Peter and Chris Atchley also were under par as North Alabama's golf team took the first-round lead at the St. Leo Invitational.

FLORENCE — Zane Streater put on a passing clinic for Hatton (3-1, 2-1) in a 56-16 win while Mars Hill (0-4, 0-2) continues to look for its first victory in its inaugural season.

The skinny: Hatton began its season 1-1, with both games decided by a total of 10 points. Last week, the Hornets piled up yards on the ground and got two scores from running back Trey Brown to blank Phil Campbell 41-0. ... No team has reached 20 points against Hatton in 2014. ... After two heavy losses to start the year, the Panthers scored a season-high 20 points last week and played Phil Campbell to within two scores.

CHEROKEE — Red Bay took control early and built a huge lead en route to a 55-20 victory over Cherokee on Friday night.

Mars Hill (0-2) at Phil Campbell (1-1)

The skinny: Phil Campbell won its first game since 2012 last week, beating Sumiton Christian 26-24. ... It was the first win for Bobcats second-year coach Ryan Swinney. ... Tristan Godsey scored the game-winning touchdown on an 8-yard run for Phil Campbell. Godsey finished with 85 yards rushing, while Colby Baker went over 100 yards and scored twice. ... Mars Hill is seeking its first win in school history after opening the season with losses to Class 3A teams Sheffield and Lexington. ... The Panthers have given up 109 points in their two losses. ... Mars Hill did score its first points last week on Brady Binion’s 6-yard touchdown run.
