FLORENCE - A company operating two oncology centers in the Shoals are among five health care providers seeking a hearing to discuss RegionalCare Hospital Partners’ certificate of need application for building a replacement for Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital.
Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield and Alliance Oncology LLC are part of the group questioning the proposed hospital construction in Florence.
Keller Hospital, Athens Limestone Hospital, Decatur General Hospital and Parkway Medical Center om Decatur filed a joint request for a contested case hearing earlier this month. All four facilities are affiliated with Huntsville Hospital, the largest hospital facility in north Alabama.
Alliance Oncology filed a separate request with the Alabama State Health Planning and Development Agency before this week’s filing deadline.
Alliance Oncology operates two free-standing radiation oncology centers in the Shoals - Bethesda Regional Cancer Treatment Center in Florence and Valley Regional Cancer Treatment Center in Sheffield.
Jeff Atwood, vice president of communication for RegionalCare, said the filings will delay the possible approval of the certificate of need and the start of construction.
