FLORENCE — North Alabama football coach Terry Bowden has agreed to a one-year contract extension with the Lions, according to UNA athletic director Mark Linder.
Bowden's original three-year contract expires on Dec. 31. Linder and Bowden first met this past Friday to discuss the contract and worked out the final details Tuesday.
"I am excited about my new contract with UNA," Bowden said in a statement. "The future of our athletic program here at UNA is very bright. Although our goals will always be to play for championships and represent UNA with dignity and class, I am very pleased for our athletes to have made it to the playoffs for a third straight year."
Bowden has led the Lions to a combined 29-9 record in his three seasons. His 29 wins over his first three years at UNA are the most by any coach in the program's history.
"Coach Bowden and I recently met about the current status and the future direction of our football program," Linder said. "I am excited for Terry and our plan to strengthen our already successful program. We are committed to providing a department that our students, our alumni, our campus, and the Shoals community will be proud to support."
