FLORENCE — A Lauderdale County man and his brother, who face charges related to the stabbing death of a man last week, are now in the Lauderdale County Detention Center, officials said.

Just before 5:30 p.m. Thursday, the sheriff's department black van rolled into the parking lot at the detention center, and deputies removed Shannon Brewer and his brother, Jerry Brewer.

Shannon Paul Brewer, 24, 7876 Lauderdale 200, Florence, is charged with murder in connection with the Nov. 19 stabbing death of Mark Allen Dishon, 49, 64 Lauderdale 638, which is on a dead end road near White's Lake, Lauderdale County Sheriff Ronnie Willis said.

Jerry Brewer, 25, 1402 S.W. Eighth St., Sheffield, is charged with first-degree theft of property. He is accused of stealing an automobile the brothers used to leave the area, Willis said.

Willis said U.S. marshals located the brothers Nov. 20 in Tallahassee, Fla.

As they exited the van Thursday, both men had their feet shackled and their hands shackled to their waist. As they walked to the detention center, the brothers were smiling and at times laughing.

Shannon Brewer did not answer when asked by a reporter if he killed Dishon.

A family member who was there when they arrived said "keep your heads up," as they walked to the center. Just before they went in, the family member shouted "I love you, man."

Officials with the sheriff's department received notification Monday that the Brewers signed extradition papers to be returned to Florence.

Willis said deputies left about 3 a.m. Thursday to travel to Tallahassee to retrieve the brothers.

Dishon was pronounced dead at his residence after authorities said he was stabbed multiple times. Officials said Dishon and Shannon Brewer, who is accused of stabbing Dishon, were friends. Officials said they have yet to determine what led to Dishon's death.

Dishon's ex-wife, Sandra Sikes, 66, who was living with him at the time, also was stabbed, sustaining minor injuries, officials said.

Sheriff's investigator Richard Richey, who is heading the investigation, said Shannon Brewer also is charged with second-degree assault in connection with the attack on Sikes.

He said Jerry Brewer is charged with stealing a 2001 Toyota Sequoia.

The vehicle has been returned to its owner, officials said.

Richey said when the brothers were captured, U.S. marshals recovered a knife believed to be used in the stabbing. They also confiscated a handgun that Shannon Brewer had at the time of his capture, officials said.

Lauderdale County District Attorney Chris Connolly said now that the brothers are back, they will have an initial appearance in district court within the next few days. At that time, the exact charges will be explained to them, and they will be assigned an attorney if needed.
