Broken pipe causes Browns Ferry Unit 1 shutdown
By Russ Corey
The TimesDaily

ATHENS — A broken steam pipe caused Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant’s Unit 1 reactor to go offline Tuesday, a Tennessee Valley Authority spokesman said.

Scott Brooks said Unit 1 was taken offline early Tuesday morning to make repairs to a broken pipe on the feedwater heater level control system.

Brooks said there was no danger to the public.

“The site has assembled a team to evaluate the issue and develop a repair plan,” Brooks said.

The Unit 2 reactor is currently offline for a scheduled refueling outage and Unit 3 continues to operate at 100 percent, Brooks said.
