During the recent election were you deceived? As a church member and registered Democrat, I had serious thoughts about issues printed as facts that appeared as voter guides in many churches.
Some people and churches were led to believe that Democrats who supported the Democratic platform were not Christians, and according to one former Baptist minister-turned-politician-turned-TV-news-commentator anyone who votes Democrat is probably going to feel the flames for supporting this platform. In other words, if you vote Democrat, you’re going to eternal damnation.
Those printed flyers placed throughout churches were half-truths and out-of-context statements. But, after carefully looking at the author and checking his educational background, it became evident that his only goal in printing this propaganda was to used churches for political purposes. The intention was to shave as many votes as possible and this ploy worked rather well throughout the South.
After the election I looked at the political parties apart from their printed platforms and boy did I get a real eye-opener. Democrats failed to point out that they have thousands of folks who belong to the “pro-life” wing of the party. Republicans also failed to point out that some in their party support every gay and abortion issue.
History might record the 2012 election as the year the church chose politics over the Bible. The master never mentioned Democrats or Republicans. His statements were simple, take care of the poor and go into all the world and preach the gospel.
