CROOKED OAK — A 10th-grader at Colbert Heights High School who was shot with a handgun Saturday in a prank gone wrong remains in critical condition.
Authorities are still investigating the accident involving Jesse Rainey, 15, and will turn their findings over to the Colbert County District Attorney’s Office.
Rainey is in UAB Children’s Hospital. Authorities said he was one of eight teen boys who planned to spend the weekend at a house in Crooked Oak, which belongs to one of the teen’s parents.
A few members of the group walked outside at one point and decided to make the others think an intruder had entered the house. During the process, Rainey, who was in on the prank, was shot with a .38-caliber handgun, officials said.
