Deshler stays undefeated in TD Classic

Deshler remained undefeated in the TimesDaily Classic baseball tournament Tuesday as the Tigers rolled to a 15-5 victory over Hatton.

Skyler Kirchner went 3-for-3 to lead the Tigers (3-0). Taylor Gross and Carson McGregory added two hits each and Justin Cantrell added a triple and three RBIs.

Ty Terry had two hits for Hatton. Colby Harville added a run-scoring double and Austin Long also doubled for the Hornets (2-2).

J.T. Thompson worked four innings and struck out five to earn the win for Deshler.

In Monday’s late game, Deshler defeated Lawrence County 7-2. McGregory had three extra base hits and four RBIs, including a solo homer for the Tigers.

Joe McIlwain allowed four hits and struck out four in five innings to earn the win for Deshler.

n Hatton 14, Sheffield 2: Dusty Carpenter went 3-for-3 with one RBI to help Hatton rout Sheffield in five innings.

Ty Terry added a two-run double for the Hornets. Austin Long went five innings to earn the win for Hatton.

n Russellville 8, Winfield 3: Blake Hyde allowed three hits and struck out eight in six innings to earn the win as Russellville defeated Winfield.

Austin Kitterman had one hit, two stolen bases and scored two runs for Russellville (2-1).

n Winfield 16, Red Bay 6: Winfield scored eight runs in the first inning to set the tone in a 16-6 victory over Red Bay in the TimesDaily Classic. Red Bay tried to overcome the early deficit but Winfield scored two runs in the fifth inning and five runs in the sixth to end the game.

Hagen Stovall was 4-for-5 with six RBIs for Winfield (2-1) in the win. Red Bay (0-2) was led by Austin Thorn with two hits and Ethan Blanton with two RBIs.

n Brooks 4, Lexington 2: Ryan Masonia earned the win ad Austin Michael picked up the save as Brooks edged Lexington in the Lauderdale County tournament.

Michael led the Lions with two hits and Riley Phillips added a double.

n Lauderdale County 8, Rogers 3: Lauderdale County won its third straight as the Tigers defeated Rogers.

Seth Edwards allowed three hits in five innings to earn the win for the Tigers (3-0).

Jacob Newton led LCHS with three hits, while Adam Berryhill and Hunter Haney had two hits each. Josh Burchell had a double for Rogers.

n Mars Hill 5, Wilson 0: Thomas Burrows hit a grand slam and also was the winning pitcher as Mars Hill blanked Wilson.

Colby Smith and Collin White had two hits each for the Panthers. Four pitchers combined on a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts for Mars Hill.

n Colbert Heights 12, Cherokee 2: Jeffrey Mitchell had three hits, including a solo homer, and drove in three runs to power Colbert Heights to a five-inning victory over Cherokee at the Colbert County Invitational.

Cole Claunch went 3-for-3 with a double and a triple, while Marcus Borden also had three hits for the Wildcats. Jason Borden added two hits and three RBIs for Colbert Heights (1-0). Brian Russell had two hits for Cherokee.

Jason Borden pitched a four-hitter and struck out 10 to get the win for the Wildcats.

n Colbert County 16, Covenant Christian 0: Tyler Craft and Alex Vanderford combined for a no-hitter as Colbert County pounded Covenant Christian on Monday in the Colbert County Invitational.

J.D. Isbell and Jordan Bennett led the Indians with two hits each while Nick Isbell had a triple.

Christian Poage took the loss for the Eagles.

Softball

n Lexington 12, Shoals Christian 2: Anita Stewart had three hits and scored three runs to power Lexington past Shoals Christian.

Bailee White and Jessie Butler had two hits each for Lexington and Marie Pigg added a two-run triple. Butler earned thew in for the Golden Bears.

Soccer

n Florence 3, Mars Hill 0 (boys): Florence won its second straight match to open the season as the Falcons blanked Mars Hill.

Jake Tanner got the Falcons going when he scored on an assist from Milton Tama with 4:12 to go in the opening half.

The Falcons extended the lead to 2-0 on an unassisted goal by Damian Ramos with 25;26 remaining. Nick Dodson closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal with 17:53 to play.

Florence 2-0 (1-0) resumes section play at Decatur on Thursday.

n Mars Hill 4, Florence 0 (girls): Taylor Wideman scored all four goals and Nicole Berryman recorded the shutout with 14 saves in goal as Mars Hill blanked Florence.

Boys Basketball

n Wayne County 48, Perry County 47: Peyton Mathis hit a 3-pointer with 2.0 seconds remaining to give Wayne County a dramatic victory over Perry County in the championship game of the TSSAA Class A, District 12 tournament.

Wayne County trailed 40-35 after three quarters before outscoring Perry County 13-7 in the final eight minutes.

Mathis finished with 24 points to lead the Wildcats (15-13). Jacob Tucker paced Perry County with 15 points.

n Collinwood 63, Summertown 54: Hunter Andrews scored 23 points to spark Collinwood past Summertown in the District 12A consolation game.

Jacob Daniel added 11 points and Tucker Robertson had 10 for the Trojans. Craig Allen led Summertown with 22 points.
