FLORENCE — Firefighters are trying to determine the cause of a fire that damaged a Cloverdale Road residence this morning.

Officials said the fire was reported at 4:07 a.m. at 2632 Cloverdale Road.

Firefighters said two men living in the residence were awakened by a smoke alarm and got out of the house uninjured.

The house was filled with flames when firefighters arrived. They said the interior of the house suffered extensive damage.

Authorities said it appears the fire started in the back of the house, which is just north of Cox Creek Parkway.

The state Fire Marshal’s office is working with the Florence Fire Department to determine the cause of the fire.

The American Red Cross is assisting the residents.
