RUSSELLVILLE — A Franklin County woman involved in a 2011 wreck that killed a 15-month-old child has been indicted on manslaughter charges.

A Franklin County grand jury determined there was enough evidence to take the case against Donna Cummings Huckaba, 42, 3725 Franklin 75, Phil Campbell, to trial.

She is accused of being intoxicated at the time.

Huckaba was involved in a two-car accident July 16, 2011, on Franklin 34 in Russellville. State troopers said, Angela Mejias, of Russellville, was killed in the crash.

The indictment states Huckaba caused “the death of Angela Mejias by driving intoxicated and crossed the center line and collided with the other vehicle head-on.” Officials said Mejias was in a safety seat in the back of a 2007 Ford driven by Norma Torres, 36, Phil Campbell. Authorities said the seat was not properly installed.

Jennifer Carreto, 15, Russellville, also was a passenger in the car and sustained minor injuries.

Reports show Huckaba was driving a 2004 Ford that struck Torres’ vehicle.

Neither Huckaba nor Torres were injured in the accident.

Huckaba was arrested at the scene after being accused of driving under the influence of alcohol.

When state troopers completed the investigation, evidence was turned over to the Franklin County District Attorney’s office to present to the grand jury.

Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing said Huckaba is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 13 He said the case could be placed on the February trial docket.

Manslaughter is a Class B felony punishable by 2-20 years in prison, if convicted.
