Fire destroys home; search for couple under way
By Tom Smith
The TimesDaily

CENTRAL HEIGHTS - Firefighters are sorting through debris from a house fire this morning in search of at least two people feared to be inside the structure, authorities said.

Their search had not produced results as of 9:15 a.m., Family members at the scene remained hopeful as firefighters went through the structure.

Emergency workers say a couple lives in the brick-framed, two-story house on Lauderdale 81.

The fire was so intense that the roof caved in, which has made the search more difficult for firefighters.

The fire was reported just after 3 a.m., officials said.
