Firefighters rescue woman from burning house

Firefighters work at the scene of a house fire this morning in Tuscumbia.

TUSCUMBIA — Firefighters rescued a woman from her burning house this morning on East First Street, officials said.

Emergency personnel were called to the residence at 304 E. First St. about 8:45.

Immediately after arriving, firefighters entered the building and removed the resident, who had called 911.

Heavy smoke was visible from several blocks away.

Firefighters continued to extinguish the fire.
